How to

Step by step
  1. On a gentle slope, ride straight at a slow, steady pace that's just fast enough not to stall, looking in your direction of travel.

Press evenly with both feet to keep the board flat.

  2. Bend both knees to about 100-110° and sink low, keeping your back upright and dropping your weight straight down.

This is your loaded "set" position, like compressing a spring — the deeper you sink, the more pop you'll get afterward.

  3. From that low position, swing your arms upward while shifting your weight slightly toward your back foot, and lightly unweight through the heel-to-arch of your front foot to lift the nose (front).

Keep your eyes down the slope.

  4. The instant the nose comes up, drive the tail (back) hard into the slope with the ball of your back foot (toe side).

Don't try to jump off both feet — feel the board flex and give you the rebound back.

  5. As that rebound lifts you off the snow, pull both knees toward your chest to make your body compact.

The tighter you tuck your arms and legs, the more stable you stay in the air.

  6. Spot your landing, and set the board down flat on both feet at the same time.

As you touch down, bend your knees to 90-100° and absorb the impact through your legs.

Tips

Think "snap the tail," not "jump." Trying to spring off both feet at once never flexes the board, so you get no rebound.

COMMON MISTAKE

You jump off both feet at once → caused by kicking front and back foot together so the board never flexes. Release the front foot first to lift the nose, then a beat later stamp the tail with the back foot — keep the timing clearly staggered.
