How to

Step by step
  1. Start straight down a gentle slope, slightly faster than a tail press (enough to keep flowing without stalling).

Having some speed gives you room to catch and correct your balance

  2. Bend both knees to about 120-130 degrees and keep your hips neutral (centered right over the middle of the board)

  3. Gradually shift your weight onto the heel-to-ball line of your back foot and slide your hips until they sit directly over that foot.

    The nose starts to lift

  4. Once the nose is up, keep it at a steady height as you keep gliding.

A tail press is about freezing and holding the position, but a manual is about constantly making small front-to-back corrections while you roll

  5. If the nose climbs too high, straighten your back knee a little to stand taller and shift the load slightly back toward center.

If it drops, bend your back knee to sink down and load more weight onto that foot. These small ins and outs hold the height

  6. Spread both arms out to the sides as balancers, and look far down your line of travel rather than at your feet.

Looking ahead steadies your upper body and cuts down side-to-side wobble of the nose

  7. Keep your front foot lightly in contact with the board.

Lift it off completely and you lose your steering correction

  8. To come down, ease your hips slowly back to center and set the nose down quietly

Tips & common mistakes

Tips

Carry a bit more speed than a tail press. Too slow and you have no time to fix a tilt once it starts, so you collapse right away

COMMON MISTAKE

Nose wanders side to side → your upper body is twisted off your line. Square your chest and belly button to your direction of travel and keep your eyes far ahead, and the board tracks straight
