How to

Step by step
  1. Drop into the approach in switch stance (your non-dominant foot leading).

Your usual back foot is now the front foot, so front and back sensations are completely flipped. Start by riding switch in a straight line on flat or very mellow terrain to remind your body how to stop and turn — it takes the fear out before you hit the jump.

  2. Bend both knees lightly to about 30–40 degrees and keep your hips stacked over the middle of the board (halfway between your feet) as you ride toward the lip (the edge of the takeoff).

In switch you instinctively distrust the front foot and pull your hips back, so aim your belly button a touch further toward the nose than feels natural — that lands you right in the center.

  3. At the top of the lip, extend both legs at the same time and with the same force.

If one leg pushes earlier or harder, that difference tilts the board and feeds it spin, so it turns on its own. To fly straight, press evenly with both feet.

  4. Once you leave the lip, drop your arms lightly to your sides, keep your limbs close to your body, and do nothing in the air.

Swinging your arms twists your upper body, and the board follows that twist and changes direction. Keep your eyes on the landing.

  5. Land switch, bending both knees deeply (close to 90 degrees) to absorb the impact.

Don't rotate your body to get back to your normal stance — keep the same stance and meet the landing with your whole foot.

Tips & common mistakes

Tips

Just before takeoff, split your weight evenly between front and back foot. In switch you tend to under-load the front foot (your usual back foot) and sit back, and a strong back foot makes the tail lag so you fly tilted backward.

COMMON MISTAKE

You spin on your own while flying → your feet leave the lip out of sync and one leg extends harder, because an uneven push feeds the board rotation. → Focus only on "press both feet straight, together" at the lip, and repeat two-footed switch hops on flat ground to erase the left-right difference.
