How to

Step by step
  1. Ride straight in your switch stance with knees softly bent.

In switch, what is normally your front foot becomes your back foot. Keep your eyes a little ahead in the direction you're traveling (your switch nose).

  2. To set up the pop, bend both knees fairly deep (roughly 120 degrees) and sink down, keeping your weight centered over the board.

Sinking stores the energy you'll use to drive the board into the snow.

  3. Shift your weight onto your switch back foot (the foot that is your front foot in regular stance) and load it from the ball of the foot through the heel, stamping the tail firmly into the snow.

Because this is your less-practiced side, focus on pressing straight down so the direction doesn't wander.

  4. As the tail flexes and springs back, snap that back foot straight while pulling your front knee (your switch nose side) up toward your chest.

The nose lifts first, then the tail follows.

  5. In the air, tuck both knees to keep the board level and move your eyes to the landing.

  6. Land on both feet at once and bend your knees the instant you touch down to absorb the impact.

Sinking lets you soak up the rebound so you can keep riding away in switch.

Tips

Sink deep, but press fast. A slow press lets the energy leak out before the tail fully flexes, so the rebound is weak.

COMMON MISTAKE

No lift at all → You're pressing both feet down together instead of loading the switch back foot. Shift your weight fully onto the back foot once, stamp the tail with it, then lift the front foot.
