How to

Step by step
  1. On a gentle slope, glide straight at a slow, controlled speed.

Going fast means you'll pass the spot before you can set your stance, so keep it slow at first.

  2. Bend both knees slightly (around 120-130°) and start neutral, with your hips centered over the board.

Keep your chest up and your eyes looking forward.

  3. Gradually shift your weight onto the heel-to-ball-of-foot line of your back foot.

Don't stomp it — think of moving onto the foot rather than pushing down, or the board will rebound.

  4. As your weight moves, slide your hips back until they sit directly over your back foot.

From here the nose (front) starts to lift on its own — once it's up, lock your hips in that spot and hold.

  5. Spread both arms out to the sides and reach toward whichever way you start to tip to stay balanced.

Keep looking forward — if you drop your eyes to your feet, your head's weight pulls your center down and your stance breaks.

  6. Don't fully lift your front foot — keep it lightly resting on the board.

Leaving a little weight toward the nose lets you drop back to your normal stance instantly.

  7. To come out, don't unweight and crash down — slide your hips back to center slowly and set the nose down quietly.

Tips

Load "gradually," not "hard." Sudden weight flexes the board and it springs back, bucking you off instead of lifting the nose.

COMMON MISTAKE

Sitting down on the snow → your hips have gone past the back foot, out beyond the tail. Stop them directly over the back foot and never send them farther back.
