How to

Step by step
  1. Ride onto the box in a 50-50 or boardslide position.

Keep your knees softly bent around 30 to 40 degrees, your weight stacked over the box, and your eyes on the end of the box.

  2. About halfway to the end, start turning your shoulders and arms frontside (toward your front) first.

Keep the board still for now and let only your upper body wind up, storing the spin. Let your chest open slowly toward the outside of your direction of travel.

  3. At the end of the box, press through the balls of both feet and extend your knees to unweight, releasing the wound-up upper body down into your legs.

This is the moment the board finally starts to turn. From a boardslide, choosing the 270 that brings you back to riding forward (regular) feels the most natural.

  4. Right after you unweight, send your eyes to the landing in the direction you are spinning.

Lead with your head and eyes, and your body and board will follow them around.

  5. Before you finish the 270, point your hips toward the landing and set up with a little more weight on your front foot.

If your body stays behind, the spin won't stop and you'll land on your tail.

  6. On contact, bend your knees deep, to about 60 to 70 degrees, to absorb the impact, with your eyes down the slope.

Stay low and ride out a few meters to settle.

Tips & common mistakes

Tips

The more you turn your upper body first and let the board lag, the faster the board whips around when you release it. Build the spin with your arms and shoulders, then hand it off to your legs at takeoff.

COMMON MISTAKE

You come up short and land around 180 → you didn't turn your upper body enough first, or you didn't use your arm swing. Over the last half, open your shoulders well ahead and throw your arms in the spin direction at takeoff.
