How to
Step by stepApproach the box straight on at a slow, controlled speed (just enough not to stall).
Starting on a box on a gentle slope makes it far less intimidating.
Just before you reach the box, keep your eyes on the far end (the exit) and start turning your shoulders and chest toward your backside first.
Your lower body follows a beat later, and this upper-body lead is what starts the board turning.
The instant your front foot reaches the edge of the box, twist the board 90 degrees with both feet together so it sits across the box (sideways).
At this point your back faces the direction you're traveling.
Land the board on the middle of the box and keep it as flat as possible against the surface (not tipped onto the toe edge or the heel edge).
On a slick box a tilted edge will catch and throw you, so a flat, edge-free board is the safe position.
While you slide, stack yourself directly over the board from head to hips.
Keep the knees bent about 30 to 40 degrees and the hips parallel to the long axis of the box. If your weight drifts forward or back the board slides out from under you, so staying centered over the middle keeps the board steady.
Keep looking over your shoulder at the exit the whole time.
Watching the exit naturally opens your upper body toward it and gets you ready to bring the board straight again.
At the end of the box, untwist the board back to straight (pointing down the hill), land on both feet, and ride away.
Tips & common mistakes
In the app — learn while you logPre-wind your upper body (shoulders and chest) toward your backside before you reach the box. The lower body then catches up and the board swings to 90 degrees on its own. Forcing the rotation from the legs first throws off your axis and makes you fall.
A weak, timid approach because you can't see your backside → cause: the exit is out of your sightline so your body tenses up → fix: look over your shoulder at the exit before you commit, and practice gliding into that direction on a flat line first.
