How to

Step by step
  1. Start without your board, once you can string together 5 stable jumps in a row.

Keep your eyes on the middle of the wall in front of you (at your own eye level), not down at your feet. If your gaze drops, your upper body folds forward and your posture breaks down.

  2. On the sink, press the trampoline straight down through the whole foot (especially the ball of the foot).

Extend your knees lightly to pop straight up, and feel the exact moment you reach your highest point.

  3. At the top, the instant you feel weightless, draw both knees up.

Bend at the hips to bring your thighs toward your stomach and bend the knees at the same time, folding until your shins are roughly parallel to the floor. You tuck at the very top because that is where the downward force lets go; tucking on the way up kills your bounce.

  4. Wrap each hand around the matching shin, just below the knee, with a light hold.

You don't need to crank it in, just enough that your thighs touch your stomach. Round your back slightly but keep looking forward rather than down at your navel, so you don't tip forward.

  5. Once you pass the top and start to drop, let go, open the hips and knees, and lower your legs.

Extend them with time to spare before you land, and catch the trampoline with your whole foot. Keep your eyes forward through the landing too.

Tips

Fixing your eyes on the wall ahead steadies your head position, which keeps your body's axis upright by extension. Looking down drops your head and folds your upper body in a chain reaction.

COMMON MISTAKE

Tuck comes too late and the position stays shallow → you're pulling in after you've already started to drop. Lift at the highest, weightless moment; being a beat early is about right.
