How to

Step by step
  1. On the approach, keep your eyes down the line and stay centered evenly over both feet, riding straight at the lip.

Not scrubbing speed late keeps your distance consistent and buys you time to grab in the air.

  2. At the lip, extend both knees to unweight and pop straight up.

Do not add any spin here, this trick is about holding a shape rather than rotating, so any spin off the lip will pull your crossed body out of position.

  3. Right after takeoff, tuck both knees to about 90 degrees and draw the board up in front of your hips.

Pulling your limbs in tight steadies you in the air and frees up room to reach the front hand across.

  4. Twist your upper body about 40 to 45 degrees toward your front foot, leading with your shoulder and chin first.

Shift your gaze toward the board over your back foot. Lead with the shoulder rather than reaching with the hand, and the torso turns smoothly.

  5. Let the front hand (left hand for regular) follow that shoulder across the front of your body and grab the toe edge near the rear binding.

Your arm crosses your torso like a seatbelt strapped diagonally across the chest.

  6. Hold the crossed shape for a beat with knees tucked and the front hand locked on.

Reach the back hand out the opposite way, past the tail, to balance the twist of your upper body.

  7. As the landing approaches, release the front hand and unwind your upper body back down the line so your shoulders are square to the board.

Bend both knees to set the whole base down on the snow and look ahead to absorb the landing.

Tips

Adding no spin off the lip is the top priority. The seatbelt rides the upward pop and only builds the shape in the air, so spinning on takeoff lets the rotation drag your crossed body around and pull the grab loose.

COMMON MISTAKE

Front hand can't reach the toe edge by the back foot → you are stretching with the arm while shoulders and chin still face forward. Turn the shoulder about 40 to 45 degrees toward the front foot and shift your gaze to the board over the back foot first, then let the hand follow.
