How to
Step by stepApproach a mogul bump or kicker on a medium slope at a steady moderate speed, fast enough not to stall.
Keep your skis parallel and look just beyond the takeoff point.
Just before takeoff, let both knees flex a little, then at the moment of takeoff push both legs down into the snow to pop yourself up.
The height you get here is the time you have to open and close the split, so a low pop kills the trick.
Right after you leave the ground, drive the hip of your front ski forward and straighten that knee so the ski slides ahead (pick your easier leg and keep it fixed while learning).
At the same time bend the other knee and pull that ski back, opening wide front-to-back.
Let the front ski sit level with the tip slightly up and the rear ski with the tip slightly down — that contrast makes the split read cleanly.
Keep your pelvis centered between the legs so neither leg pulls you off balance.
Open both arms out to the sides at shoulder height, lift your chest, and look straight down the fall line.
The open arms aren't just for looks — they let you correct any side-to-side tilt by shifting an arm.
Just past the peak of the jump, immediately pull the front ski back and bring the rear ski forward so both feet meet under your body.
Return the skis to parallel and bend both knees to absorb the landing.
Tips & common mistakes
In the app — learn while you logHeight is everything. The harder you push both legs off the takeoff, the more airtime you have to open the split and close it again. Forcing the split off a low pop leaves no time to bring the feet back.
The front-to-back split looks small and doesn't read → the front knee isn't fully straightened and the rear ski isn't pulled all the way back. Practice moving both legs in opposite directions at once, driving the hips far apart front-to-back. Add daily front-to-back splits stretching to widen your range.
