How to

Step by step
  1. First get a solid, deep grab at the peak of your jump (for example Indy = back hand on the toe edge between your feet, Melancholy = front hand on the heel edge between your feet).

A tweak is a shape you build after grabbing, so locking in the grab first is the foundation.

  2. Keep the grabbing hand pulling the board in toward your body and hold it there.

This becomes your anchor for everything that follows.

  3. Extend the leg opposite the grab by straightening that knee and pushing your toes far away, pressing one end of the board away from your body.

For back-hand grabs (like Indy), push the nose out (straighten the front leg). For front-hand grabs (like Melancholy), push the tail out (straighten the back leg).

  4. At the same time, bend the other knee deeply and pull it up while arching your hips slightly.

Straightening one leg and bending the other tilts the board across your body, which is the 'tweaked' look.

  5. Hold that pull-and-push tension, with your eyes on a point ahead of you rather than down at the landing.

Don't fully straighten the leg, or it takes too long to retract and you land late, so push out only to about 70-80 percent.

  6. Just before landing, bring the extended leg and the bent leg back to a matching mid-height at the same time, release the grab, and bend both knees evenly.

Get both feet stacked over the board before touching down.

Tips & common mistakes

Tips

The grabbing hand pulls in while the leg pushes out, applying opposite forces at the same time. That opposing tension is what creates the shape; with only one of them, the board stays flat and it's just a grab.

COMMON MISTAKE

You grab but the board never tilts → You're missing the push from the leg. Keep pulling the board in with the grab hand while straightening the opposite knee to push your toes far away, and the board will tilt.
