How to

Step by step
  1. Start on an intermediate-or-steeper slope with a bit more speed than your FS360 (about one notch faster).

The extra rotation needs more airtime, so build it with takeoff speed.

  2. Just before you pop, sink down by bending both knees deep (knee angle 90–100°).

At the same moment, turn only your upper body (chest and both shoulders) toward the frontside direction while leaving your hips, lower body, and board pointed straight ahead. Winding the top and bottom against each other stores the turning effort, so when you release it your body snaps into the spin.

  3. Staying lightly on your heel edge, push off the snow through your back foot to launch straight up.

As you leave the snow, release that stored wind-up and let your hips and board chase the swing of your shoulders. All of your spinning power is set in this instant of takeoff — you can't add to it in the air — so finish the shoulder rotation here.

  4. Once airborne, quickly pull both arms in tight to your chest and bend both knees to make yourself compact (knee angle 80–90°).

The closer your arms and legs are to the center of your body, the faster you spin for the same effort. Loosen up and you won't make it around.

  5. Keep your eyes moving — lead the rotation with your head.

Since this is one and a half rotations, spot your landing quickly the first time you face forward (around 180°), then lock your eyes onto the landing again when you come back to forward on the second pass (around 360–450°).

  6. Past 450°, slowly open your tucked arms out to the sides to brake the rotation and line the board up with the snow.

  7. Land in a switch stance (back foot forward) with the board pointing along your direction of travel.

As you touch down, bend both knees deep (down past 90°) to soak up the impact with your legs. You're riding away switch, so keep balancing over your back-foot-forward stance after landing.

Tips & common mistakes

Tips

All of your spinning power is decided in that single instant of takeoff. So focus on the wind-up in step 2 and finishing the shoulder swing in step 3 — don't flail your body trying to add spin in the air. Swinging your arms mid-air tilts your axis and you'll drop sideways.

COMMON MISTAKE

Rotation stalls around 450° and you land before facing forward → You aren't swinging your shoulders enough at takeoff or tucking hard enough in the air. Wind up deeper in step 2, then pull your arms to your chest and your knees to your body right after the pop to speed up the spin.
