How to
Step by stepApproach the kicker straight on at a moderate speed — fast enough to clear the gap but still controlled.
Keep your skis flat and your body squared to the slope, eyes down the fall line, and resist starting the spin here. Rotating early tilts your axis.
Just before the lip (the take-off edge), drop into a low stance.
Fold your hips and knees to about 30–40 degrees and load the balls of your feet (under the big toes) to set up the pop.
As you reach the lip, extend both legs and pop straight up.
Because this is a frontside spin (rotating toward your back, the blind direction), lead with your shoulders and chest turning toward your back and send your chin over your left shoulder (right shoulder for goofy). Build the rotation with the upper body and use the legs to push up — this keeps your axis vertical while still getting height.
Once airborne, bring both arms in front of your chest and pull both knees up so the skis tuck toward your body.
Your spin speed is set the instant you leave the lip and can't be added in the air, so the more compact you are, the faster you turn for the same effort.
Past the half-rotation (180 degrees) you briefly face straight backward and lose sight of the landing.
Lead with your eyes here — keep turning your head to scan back toward the slope you launched from. If your eyes stop, the rotation stops too.
Nearing the full rotation the landing comes into view.
Release your arms and knees slightly, line your skis up with your direction of travel, and extend to brake any over-rotation.
When your skis are parallel to the slope again, land.
Set both feet down together, bend your hips and knees to absorb the impact in a low stance, and send your eyes ahead to ride away.
Tips & common mistakes
In the app — learn while you logStart the spin from the upper body (shoulders, chest, chin), not the legs. Leading with the lower body spins the skis while the torso lags, twisting the axis and dropping you in crooked.
Falling short and landing at three-quarters (270 degrees) → weak upper-body lead off the lip, so the spin starts late. Send your shoulders and chest toward your back as you pop, and pull your arms and knees in hard to make your body compact in the air.
