How to
Step by stepApproach straight at a steady medium speed, riding slightly on your heel edge.
Bend your knees and lower your hips, keep both shoulders square to your direction of travel, and look ahead at the lip (the takeoff edge).
Just before you reach the lip, sink down deeper to load your ankles, knees, and hips.
Don't twist your upper body early here — staying square as you load keeps you from over-rotating or tipping over.
Off the lip, press straight down through your whole foot (a little more on the heel side) and extend your loaded knees to pop up.
At the same time, start pulling your back-foot shoulder and your hip (pelvis) toward the backside — the direction that turns your back around. All of your spin is set at this instant of takeoff and can't be added in the air, so lead with your shoulder and hips together right here.
Once you're off the ground, hug your arms in front of your chest and draw your knees toward your stomach to make your body small.
A compact shape spins faster than an open one for the same effort, so stay tucked until you're a little past the halfway point.
Through the blind phase, where your back faces your direction of travel, turn your head first and spot the airmat landing over your shoulder.
Your eyes pull the rotation, so send your gaze a beat ahead of your body.
When you see the mat, stop pulling with your shoulder and hips and open your arms and legs back out.
Opening up brakes the spin so it stops, and you land back-first onto the mat at the 360 mark. The airmat absorbs a back landing, so don't force yourself to stomp it on your feet.
Tips & common mistakes
In the app — learn while you logAll of your spin is decided the moment you leave the lip. Rather than swinging your arms to add rotation in the air, focus on leading with your shoulder and hips and extending upward off the takeoff — that's what carries you all the way around.
The spin stalls around 270 degrees and you drop facing forward → your shoulder-and-hip lead off the lip was too weak, or you opened up in the air. Lead with your shoulder and hip together at the lip and stay tucked until past halfway.
