How to
Step by stepAttempt this only after you can land a WJ FS180 consistently.
Approach a little faster than for a FS180 — a steady speed that doesn't stall — and ride straight down the brush (artificial-turf) in-run. The extra speed buys you airtime to finish the spin; too slow and you'll stall around 270 degrees.
Just before the lip (takeoff), bend both knees fairly deep (roughly toward a right angle) to drop your hips, keep your upper body still facing forward, and wind it slightly back toward the tail.
This is a loaded "coil" you'll unwind in a moment.
As you stand up and pop straight off the lip, throw your wound-up upper body in the frontside direction (opening toward your toe side).
Extend both knees to launch straight up and avoid tipping sideways. All of your spin is set in this instant of takeoff — you can't add to it in the air — so committing the upper-body twist on the lip matters most.
Once airborne, send your eyes first toward the way you're turning (frontside).
If you ride regular (right foot forward), look back over your left shoulder. If you ride goofy (left foot forward), look back over your right shoulder. When your face and shoulders lead, your hips and board follow, and the whole body comes around.
In the air, pull both arms in to your chest and tuck your knees slightly to make yourself small.
With the same spin, the more compact you are, the faster you rotate. Leave your arms out wide and you won't finish the turn.
Past about 270 degrees the landing comes into view.
Here, open your tucked arms slightly to brake the spin and line the board up with your direction of travel. Thinking "stop the spin" makes the landing steadier.
Land flat-footed on the whole sole.
Keep the board parallel to the water so the nose (front) and tail (back) touch at the same time. The moment you contact, soften both knees (bending back toward a right angle) to absorb the impact. Water doesn't bounce the board back — it resists — so let the knee cushion soak up the sink.
Tips & common mistakes
In the app — learn while you logYour spin is decided in the single instant of takeoff. Flailing your arms in the air won't add to it, so put all your focus into winding the upper body on the lip.
You come up short and drop onto your hip or belly-flop → your upper-body wind on the lip was weak and the spin stalled at 270 degrees → pre-wind the upper body before the lip and unwind it all at once with the takeoff, leading with your eyes.
