How to

Step by step
  1. Attempt this only after your FS180 on the trampoline is solid.

You should be able to do a half-rotation to a backward landing, then another half back to facing forward, several times in a row with room to spare.

  2. Set up to bounce straight and high.

On the center of the bed, feet together, push straight down and let the rebound send you up. If you rush and push at an angle you'll drift, so for the first two or three bounces just check "straight up and high" without rotating.

  3. Build your starting spin from just before you leave the bed.

Wind both arms and shoulders slightly the opposite way to the way you want to turn (frontside = the side your chest faces; left for goofy, right for regular), then swing them hard into the turning direction at the moment you push off. You can't add spin once you're airborne, so all the winding has to happen before your feet leave the bed.

  4. Pull yourself into a tight shape.

As you rise, draw both arms in front of your chest and bend your knees slightly to make your body small. A tucked, compact shape spins faster than a spread-out one for the same effort, which buys you the time to complete a full turn.

  5. Lead the rotation with your eyes.

Send your head and gaze ahead in the direction of the spin: front to side to back to side to front, all the way around. Picture your eyes finishing the circle before your body does, then catch the wall or marker you started facing.

  6. When you see the front (your starting direction), open your arms a little to slow the spin, extend both legs downward, and land on the center of the bed.

The opening arms act as a brake and line your direction up.

Tips & common mistakes

Tips

A full airborne rotation transfers directly to a snowboard 360. On snow, takeoff nerves and landing fear get mixed in, but on the trampoline you can focus on the spin alone and let your body learn it.

COMMON MISTAKE

You come up short and land around 270 degrees → your takeoff swing was weak and you didn't generate enough starting spin. You can't add spin in the air, so swing your arms and shoulders bigger and faster before your feet leave the bed, and tuck your limbs in once airborne to spin faster.
