How to
Step by stepOn a gentle brush slope, make sure you can ride straight in a parallel stance at a slow, controlled pace without stopping.
If you can't, your stance will collapse mid-rotation.
Flex your ankles and knees slightly, shins pressing forward against the boot tongues, and weight the surface between your arches and the balls of your feet.
Keep your center of mass right over the skis and your hips squared to the direction of travel — this is your starting stance.
Just before rotating, turn your belly button, chest, and eyes toward your spin direction first (described here spinning left; swap left and right to spin right), leaving your lower body behind.
Pre-twisting only the upper body builds a spring-like force that wants to unwind and pull your legs around. Hold your arms forward at shoulder width — don't swing them.
With your upper body still wound up, flatten both edges (skis parallel to the snow) for just an instant.
Brush grabs hard when an edge digs in, so split your weight evenly between the balls of your feet and your heels to release the grip — this is your cue to start the spin.
The moment the skis go flat, let both feet follow the wound-up upper body to the left.
Picture shaving snow backward with the heel of your right foot (the outside foot) so both skis swing left together. Keep your knees and hips flexed and stay low.
Once you've turned 180 degrees into switch (riding backward), put light weight on your heels to re-engage the edges and stop the rotation from over-spinning.
Look over your shoulder in the new direction of travel (behind you).
Ride straight in switch for a few meters and stop safely while still at a controlled speed.
Rearward visibility is limited, so don't push the distance.
Tips & common mistakes
In the app — learn while you logThe biggest key is pre-twisting your upper body before you spin. The unwinding force pulls your lower body around, so your feet follow naturally the instant you flatten the skis. Too shallow a pre-twist and you won't make it all the way around.
An edge digs in and you pitch forward → you flattened too late and tried to spin with an edge still engaged → before starting, center your weight between the balls of your feet and heels, set the skis flat for an instant, then send your feet.
