How to

Step by step
  1. Look for a natural roll or small bump on the run.

A mound whose peak sits where the slope starts dropping away in front works best, because that downward angle acts like a launch ramp and floats you up without you having to jump hard.

  2. Approach at a moderate, controlled speed with the board flat and pointed straight.

Riding in on an edge will steer you off line, so line the board up with your direction of travel before the peak.

  3. On approach, keep your knees slightly bent (around 130-150 degrees) and look at where you want to land, not at the lip you're leaving.

Looking ahead keeps your upper body from popping upright and steadies your stance.

  4. Just before the peak, stay balanced evenly over your front and back foot and sink your knees once (toward about 90 degrees); then, the instant you reach the peak (the lip), extend both knees to rise up.

Sinking first and then extending gives a natural pop. You don't need to spring hard - the slope of the roll lifts you.

  5. Once airborne, draw both knees up toward your chest to make your body compact, and hold your hands lightly out front as a balance reference.

Don't look down at the board - keep your eyes on the landing.

  6. Land both feet at once, adjusting so the board meets the slope parallel.

As you touch down, bend both knees deeply (past 90 degrees) to sink and absorb the impact through your thighs. Sinking slowly and over a long range, like compressing a spring, softens the hit.

  7. From that low, compressed stance, set a light edge and ride out in your direction of travel.

Tips

Don't try to jump high yourself. The angle of the roll launches you, so a gentle extension at the peak is enough to get air. Forcing it makes you wobble front-to-back.

COMMON MISTAKE

A hard jolt through your knees or hips on landing → you touched down with straight legs and couldn't absorb. Bend both knees past 90 degrees from the moment of contact, sinking slowly over a long range.
