How to

Step by step
  1. You should be landing Cork 540 consistently first.

Even on the airmat, start with a kicker that gives you plenty of float time. Without enough height there isn't time to finish all 720 degrees.

  2. Keep the approach at a steady medium speed.

Don't wind up your upper body into the turn early; stay squared to your direction of travel toward the lip. Look at the edge of the lip first to set your takeoff spot, not the sky beyond it.

  3. At the moment you pop off the lip, roll the load on your back foot from the heel toward the ball of the foot while you extend both knees and spring straight up.

At the same time, tip your head down and toward your front-foot side and tilt your shoulder line off level. This head-and-shoulder tilt is what blends a backward lean into the flat spin to create the angled cork axis.

  4. Right after you leave the lip, finish driving the shoulder and arm you pre-wound, then pull both knees to your chest and wrap your arms in front of you.

The smaller you make your body, the faster you spin for the same launch momentum, so this is where you earn the speed for a full 720. Spin speed is set the instant you leave the lip and can't be added in the air, so pop as if you're creating the whole 720 right there.

  5. As you pass 540 degrees, start hunting for the airmat with your eyes.

Keeping your gaze on that landing spot lets the last 180 degrees come around on its own.

  6. Once you can see the landing, slowly open your tucked knees and arms to stop the rotation and land on both feet at once, slightly back-foot weighted, onto the mat.

The mat absorbs the impact, but still keep your knees softly bent to receive it.

Tips & common mistakes

Tips

Spin speed comes from how tightly you tuck. The harder you pull your knees to your chest and your arms in front, the smaller your body and the faster you spin for the same momentum. To carry it to 720, hold that tuck stronger and longer than you did for the 540.

COMMON MISTAKE

It comes out as a Cork 540 plus an awkward 180 → your pop only produced enough spin for 540 and you're trying to tack the last 180 on in the air. Fix: you can't add it in the air, so make the knee extension off the lip and the leading shoulder drive stronger than for the 540, creating the full 720's worth of speed in one takeoff.
