How to
Step by stepStart on a medium slope at a steady, controllable speed that lets you carve.
At the start of the turn, send your eyes first toward where you want to go (the inside of the turn). Where your eyes go, your shoulders and hips follow, and the board follows them.
On a heel-side turn, load your weight toward both heels, push your hips slightly back, and sink a little.
Keep your upper body (chest and up) tall and toward the downhill side, and send only your hips toward the uphill side. Hips uphill, chest downhill — your body forms an "L" shape seen from the side.
On a toe-side turn, load your weight onto both balls of the feet (base of the big toe), drive your shins forward, and send your knees toward the slope.
Push your hips forward while keeping the upper body tall. Knees and hips move close to the snow, while your head and chest stay up the hill — again an "L" shape from the side.
In both turns, support yourself mainly on the outside leg (the downhill leg).
Keep that leg fairly straight and press it down — this adds force that drives the edge into the snow so it grips. Don't over-bend the knees; aim for a light bend that deepens to about 60–70 degrees in the strongest part of the turn.
The reason for staying tall is to keep your body weight on the downhill side so you keep pressing down onto the edge from above.
If you lean your whole body inside, the weight of your head escapes to the inside and the edge washes out. Tip the hips only; keep chest and head on the downhill side.
To switch turns, release the "L" and bring your body back to center, then resend the hips to the opposite side for the next turn.
Begin every turn by sending your eyes ahead so you build the same depth of "L" on both sides.
Tips & common mistakes
In the app — learn while you logYou can set a deeper edge the taller you stay because the weight of your head and chest doesn't drift to the inside — it stays downhill and presses the edge from above. Lean the whole body in and that weight runs inside, the edge releases, and you skid.
The whole body leans inside and the edge washes out → cause: you're tipping the head and chest along with everything (leaning in) → send only the hips inside and keep chest and head tall on the downhill side. Check from the side in a mirror that you make an "L".
